Chest

Swiss

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 305

As storage containers, chests became increasingly elaborate with high relief carvings in the later Middle Ages. This chest is carved with the popular decorative motif of linen fold panels, separated by a less common motif of an arcade of twisted columns and laurel arches.
