Morse

French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 304

A morse is a clasp attached to a liturgical vestment to prevent the garment from slipping from the shoulders. Gilded copper is at once heavy enough to support the weight of the fabric yet resplendent enough to be suitably ceremonial in appearance.
