Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender. The graceful Arabic inscription encircling the rim as on Byzantine vessels identifies the place of production, names the craftsman, and gives a blessing: "In the name of God the Merciful, the Compassionate, God’s blessing on the person who drinks from this cup, which was made in Damascus by the hand of Sunbat.[?] in the year 1."
