Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.
This ensemble is one of the most luxurious examples of Romanesque goldsmiths’ liturgical work to survive. The raised work on the chalice, the engraving of the paten, and the applied filigree openwork mounted with semiprecious stones are outstanding. Four reliefs with Old Testament scenes on the chalice’s foot are juxtaposed with four scenes from the Life of Christ on the cup. Eight raised lobes on the paten rim surround an engraved Christ in Judgment seated on a rainbow.
