Ribbon Torc

Celtic

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 301

Silver was a rare commodity in Iron Age Ireland, yet this delicate torc, or neckband, was discovered with a cache of five others like it, also made of silver. Featherlight, the torc is made from a flat strip of silver, worked into a series of gentle twists. A subtle herringbone pattern decorates both sides.
