Inspired by the Wiener Werkstätte in Austria, Louis Süe and André Mare, important and sought after French Art Deco architect/designers, founded the Compagnie des Arts Français in 1919. Dedicated to reviving the traditional arts of France, the firm could provide any element needed to create a grand and harmonious interior—furniture, metalwork, ceramics, glass, paintings, and sculpture—for its sophisticated clientele. Süe et Mare was a collaborative venture that employed the talents of many artists, among them Maurice Marinot, Roger de la Fresnaye, Marie Laurencin, Paul Vera, Jacques Villon, Raoul Dufy, and Fernand Léger. Süe et Mare and Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann were the leaders in designing comprehensive and coherent interiors.
