The Mathematician
The subject of this painting is Samuel Eilenberg (Warsaw 1913–1998 New York), a mathematician who was a professor at Columbia University for much of his career. He was also a prominent collector of Asian art, much of which was donated to The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
