Rabbit
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.By the Tang dynasty, figures of the twelve zodiac animals had become popular tomb offerings, which were considered symbols of regeneration and protection from evil influences. This endearing rabbit, originally from a complete set of the twelve animals, reflects Tang artists’ enhanced attention to naturalistic depictions.
