Countess Ekaterina Vasilievna Skavronskaya

Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun French

Not on view

This portrait of Countess Skavronskaya (1761–1829) dates to Vigée Le Brun’s Russian period. At the time, the sitter was an extremely wealthy thirty-five-year-old widow. Luminous complementary colors accentuate the soft, sensual qualities of her face and skin and suggest the warm, cushioned ambiance of her idle everyday existence.
