Francis Blackbear Bosin, Tsate Kongia Native American
Not on view
In Blackbear Bosin’s painting, a Native family on horseback observes a tornado moving across the Plains. They are awed by the power of nature and fear for their safety, and as they watch, they measure the effect of the storm on a herd of buffalo stampeding in the distance. Like painters Oscar Howe and Walter Richard “Dick” West Sr., Bosin pushed the boundaries of tradition. He created a distinctive, highly personal artistic style, placing his figures within the vastness of the Plains landscape.
