Snowscape, leaf from Album for Zhou Lianggong

Ye Xin Chinese

Not on view

These five paintings and their accompanying inscriptions belong to an album made for the noted Nanjing scholar-official Zhou Lianggong (1612–1672). A leading patron of contemporary artists, Zhou assembled a number of these albums during the last twenty-five years of his life, when his career required him to travel extensively. During his life, Zhou convened many elegant gatherings; albums such as this allowed these gatherings to continue into the virtual space of brush and ink.
