Liturgical Curtain

Armenian

Not on view

The Armenian Church uses curtains to close off the apse at specific moments in the liturgical service. Across the top of this curtain are pilgrimage stops relevant for Armenians in Jerusalem. On the left are the Monastery of Saint James and the church of Archangels and its garden. To the right, beyond the image of the Virgin and Child, is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where Christ was buried. Below, a priest and two deacons stand under three domed apses, performing a mass surrounded by choirs and faithful pilgrims.
