The Moroccan Ambassador, Muhammad Temin, and His Retinue at the Comédie Italienne
Antoine Coypel French
Not on view
The Moroccan ambassador attended a performance of the Comédie Italienne in Paris during his stay in France. Later painted by the promising young talent Coypel, Muhammad Temin is shown here in the foreground at right, with ‘Ali Maanino El Hajj, governor of the Moroccan city of Salé, next to him and dressed in green. Behind them sit two secretaries and advisers, a third unidentified figure, and, at far right, Monsieur de Raymondis, who oversaw the embassy and acted as interpreter.
