This psalter was copied and illuminated by Arak‘el of Geghama, a contemporary of Hakob of Julfa. The manuscript opens with King David, the author of the Psalms, sitting cross-legged and wearing clothing from the artist’s period. His crown is a red turban topped with a small cross. David also holds a saz with four strings, a popular instrument at the time in the Erzurum region.
