More than any other artist of the late 60s and early 70s, Bark used the four-for-a-quarter photobooth as a medium of art that merged his dual interests in photography and performance (as a performer, he frequently appeared in pieces by friends such as Trisha Brown and Meredith Monk.) In this Minimalist work, however, the artist does not appear, instead charting the progression of the photobooth curtain from open to closed; a witty comment on the theatrical nature of the photobooth as a site merging public space and private performance.
