Figure-Celt Pendant

Created from sections of ritual axes (often called celts) imported from southern Mexico or Guatemala, these pendants retain the lower blade portion of the ax. The costumed seated figure in the upper half holds what might be a jade celt in either hand. A drilled hole would have allowed its suspension as a pendant.
Estos colgantes fueron creados con una sección de hacha ritual e importados del sur de México o de Guatemala. Estos colgantes mantienen en su composición la parte inferior del hacha. Las partes superiores representan figuras aviares o antropomórficas. En su mitad superior, este colgante de "hacha partida" representa una figura disfrazada; el artista mantuvo la parte inferior del colgante como un hacha. La figura está sentada o agachada y sostiene un objeto liso con forma de píldora, quizás un hacha de jade, en cada mano. Una perforación transversal habría permitido la suspensión del colgante.
