Finger x 2

Amy Sillman American

Not on view

Sillman conceives of color as both object and subject, something with physical presence and weight, and something philosophical and symbolic. This dualism is evident on the restless surface of Finger x 2, whose layered shapes are a formal exercise in geometric arrangement as well as a close-up view of fingers. The work exudes a tension of opposites: figurative and abstract, gestural and linear, flat and deep. Rounded edges evoke corporeal folds and simultaneously suggest the fingers that held the brush.
