Large Folded Vessel with Deep Blue-Grey and Cream Tones
Mihara Ken Japanese
Not on view
This vessel was built by folding a nearly square slab on a diagonal axis. Its form is defined by the contrast between the right angles at the slab’s corners and the curves along the body and bottom. The clay is from the Izumo area, the artist’s home, in Shimane Prefecture. The unglazed surface features a buff-colored residue acquired through a high-firing technique (yakishime).
