Iraida Fomina, the daughter of an architect, studied painting and graphic art in St. Petersburg. Design for Announcement of "Change" dates from her school years. Depicting an undulating red banner crossing the composition from left to right, her design reflects the influence of Constructivism. Black words written in Russian overlap with the banner and other decorative motifs in unexpected angles, creating a dynamic and agitated surface. The triumphant red banner overlaps with the agitated letters calling for Change, creating a classic work of political propaganda.
