This photograph of the notoriously stylish Daisy Fellowes wearing the latest Alex hat relates to a fashion story de Meyer produced for Harper’s Bazaar. The radiant Fellowes—who served as the magazine’s Paris editor in the 1930s—appears against a sparkling abstract backdrop, a staple of de Meyer’s fashion work of the 1920s. His lighting style had a profound impact not only on fashion photography but also on the look of films and celebrity portraits during Hollywood’s golden age. De Meyer spent his final years in Los Angeles, making glamour shots of actors and starlets and writing his (still unpublished) memoirs.
