Untitled (Rhine Port No. i 6.15)
Ronkholz, one of the first students of Bernd Becher at the Kunstakademie, Dusseldorf alongside photographers such as Thomas Struth and Candida Hofer, is less well known today because of her tragically abbreviated career. These finely seen architectural studies in some ways come closer to the Bechers' own work than that of her fellow students: large format negatives yielding crisp, detailed views of industrial subjects, as if she were photographing the subterranean spaces beneath the Bechers' factory photographs.
