Destination Moon
On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum. The Hollywood feature Destination Moon was intended not only to entertain but also to convince the American public of the plausibility of space travel. As adviser, the science-fiction author Robert Heinlein ensured the film’s technical authenticity, but even more impressive is its prescient portrayal of the political and economic realities of the Cold War space race.
