A Trip to the Moon (Le Voyage dans la lune)
On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum.Although A Trip to the Moon was the first motion picture to depict a lunar voyage, Méliès had little interest in the actual mechanics of space travel. Instead, he portrayed the moon as the dreamlike setting for a dazzling series of special effects.
