Mother’s #19 [comb]

Ishiuchi Miyako Japanese

Not on view

These photographs belong to a series titled Mother’s that Ishiuchi began shortly before her mother, with whom she had a strained relationship, died at age 84. Intimate images of scars and everyday personal effects act as posthumous portraits and, as with much of Ishiuchi’s work, explore notions of trauma, loss, and the passage of time.

On view for rotation 2 only.
