A Miami pageant queen, Bunny Yeager wrote more than a dozen handbooks of advice for women on how to comport themselves before and behind the camera. She began taking night classes in photography in the 1950s and quickly won pin-up commissions for her charismatic nudes. A pioneer in a male-dominated field, she is credited with reinventing the cheesecake genre and anticipating the radical self-portraiture of later photographers such as Cindy Sherman. Yeager poses here with cultivated nonchalance, demonstrating the type of picture that anyone could make at home. "Sure, you’ll be bashful the first time you do it," she acknowledged. "But that’s only because it’s something new...Come on, admit you’d like to take off your clothes and make some good photographs!"
