Are You Waiting

Mark Leckey British

Not on view

Are You Waiting consists of the same clip, which the artist appropriated from another video source, of a young man dancing ecstatically to music. It is repeated again and again, for a little over five minutes, creating a hypnotic and hallucinatory sense of rhythm that also implicates the viewer. Almost all of Leckey's work, whether in sound, sculpture, or video, is premised on the reclamation of found material, from images to cartoon characters to architectural objects. Dislocated from their original contexts, they produce uncanny effects. Are You Waiting also exemplifies Leckey's interest in heightened experiences and in the history of the counter-culture.
