Found in the residence of a member of the nobility at Palenque, this majestic jaguar deity has the distinctive ears and claws of that powerful nocturnal predator. Shown here wearing a warrior headdress, the jaguar god is related to night, fire, and warfare. He is often represented as a star or planet in myths that explained the origin of warfare as a confrontation among the stars.

Este majestuoso dios jaguar fue encontrado en la residencia de un miembro de la nobleza de Palenque. Tiene las orejas y las garras características de este poderoso predador nocturno y lleva el tocado de un guerrero. Esta deidad se relacionaba con la noche, el fuego y la guerra. En representaciones mitológicas que explican el origen de la guerra como una confrontación entre las estrellas, aparece como una estrella o planeta.
