Rama and Sita (Sri Ram Sita)

mid-20th century
Not on view
Rama and Sita are depicted seated on a riverbank. Sita, her sari draped suggestively across her body, points into the distance; Rama directs his gaze in that direction. In one hand, Rama holds a bow, and the other, he places on Sita’s shoulder. A set of arrows can be seen lying on the ground. The figures are depicted in accordance with the realistic conventions of representing Hindu deities first developed by the Ravi Varma Press, with naturalistic modeling and shading. This print was produced by Chimanlal Chhotalal & Co., a printing company founded in 1933.
