Terracotta oinochoe: chous (jug)

Greek, Attic

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Dionysos and a satyr

The artist has produced a noteworthy juxtaposition here between Dionysos, wholly wrapped in a chiton and himation, and the nude, balding satyr who brandishes a torch and carries a pack or sack on his back.
