Statue eines Kouros

Dieser Kouros (Jüngling) ist eine der frühesten in Attika hergestellten Marmorstatuen, die einen Menschen abbildet. Sein fester Stand, bei dem das linke Bein vorgestreckt ist und die Arme seitlich herabhängen, sind der ägyptischen Kunst entlehnt. Diese Pose wurde von griechischen Bildhauern während des sechsten Jahrhunderts v. Chr. verwendet. Geometrische, fast abstrakte Formen beherrschen diese frühe Statue und anatomische Details sind in herrlichen analogen Mustern herausgearbeitet. Die Statue kennzeichnete das Grab eines jungen Adeligen aus Athen.
