Die Silberschmiedekunst erreichte in China während der Tang-Dynastie (618-906) ihren Höhepunkt, als die engen Verbindungen nach Zentral- und Westasien ausländische Einflüsse im Bezug auf Formen und Motive mit sich brachten. Auch die Herstellungstechniken änderten sich vom traditionellen Gussverfahren hin zum Treiben und Meißeln. Dieser exquisite Teller in Blattform, mittels Repoussé-Technik (von der Rückseite getrieben) verziert mit Blumen und Vögeln, steht exemplarisch für die Pracht der dekorativen Kunst zur Zeit der Tang-Dynastie.
