Mäda Primavesi (1903–2000)

1912 gab der Bankier und Industrielle Otto Primavesi, einer der Finanziers der Wiener Werkstätte, dieses Portrait seiner Tochter Mäda in Auftrag. Die Sitzungen fanden in dem Atelier des Künstlers in Wien statt, wo Klimt 1914 auch ein Portrait Mädas Mutter, der Schauspielerin Eugenia Primavesi (geb. Butschek) anfertigte. In einer ausführlichen Reihe an Bleistiftstudien probierte Klimt eine Vielzahl an Posen aus, bis er sich für diese aufrechte, nach vorne blickende Ansicht entschied, die die Ausgelassenheit der Neunjährigen wiedergibt.
