The verso is annotated by an early hand, at lower right, in pen and brown ink: "Aa: 39" [crossed out]; "An: Carrahhio"; "-40 / 6. 2."; at lower left, in pen and brown ink: "374/216". The old mount, which is now detached from the drawing, is annotated, in pen and brown ink: "Jacob asleep y.e ladder with angels at a great distance".
