Vicente Osorio de Moscoso, Conde de Trastamara
Goya (Francisco de Goya y Lucientes) Spanish
Not on view
Vicente was the eldest son and heir of the Count of Altamira. Born in Madrid on November 19, 1777, he was given the title traditionally bestowed on the eldest Altamira son, the Count of Trastamara. The inscription on the portrait states that the boy is "of the age of ten years," placing the painting around 1787–88.
Vicente is a miniature rendition of his father in the Banco de España portrait. Goya captures the touching contrast between the pomp and circumstance expected from the Altamira heir as the future of the family and his essence as a young ten-year-old boy.
