After marrying Prince Boris Andreyevich Golitsyn, Princess Boris (1763–1842), as she came to be called, raised a family of eight children. She also possessed of one of the largest fortunes in the empire and hosted an influential salon in St. Petersburg.
For this monumental portrait, she wears at-home dress: a delicate chemise dress with a short-sleeved silk peignoir distinguished by a range of lush complementary colors. Her exotic crimson turban is decorated with a panache of feathers.
