In this depiction of the legendary lovers Radha and Krishna, Srimati took up a much-adored theme from Rajput painting. It was especially favored in the Kishangarh School, whose style is alluded to here in the elongated eyes and strong profiles. The blending of Ajantaesque jewelry and the leafy setting with cumulus cloud formations creates an image that references traditional Rajput painting but goes beyond it. Sensuality, a hallmark of the artist’s work, is pervasive in this painting.
