Six ornamented figures represented in this disk from Michoacán, western Mexico, refer to a ceremonial procession. Metalworking techniques were introduced to this region from South and Central America, but P’urépechas rulers rapidly placed a greater value on gold, and they wore disks as insignia in life and death during the Postclassic.
Seis figuras adornadas representadas en este disco de Michoacán, que se encuentra al oeste de México, hacen alusión a una procesión ceremonial. Las técnicas del trabajo del cobre fueron introducidas a esta región desde América del Sur y Centroamérica, pero rápidamente los gobernantes p’urépechas le otorgaron un valor mucho mayor al oro, ya que llevaban discos de oro como insignias en la vida y en la muerte durante el Posclásico.
