Not on view

Richard Avedon captured the spirit of 1960s fashion in a photograph featuring the model Twiggy wearing this daring minidress by Roberto Rojas. Dress and model together represent fashion’s youth-driven trajectory and the accompanying shift in standards of feminine beauty during the 1960s. Clinging metal mesh highlights Twiggy’s slim, boyish form, and a cutaway back emphasizes the lack of undergarments beneath, signaling a move away from the structured underpinnings required to achieve the ideal figure of the previous decade. The simple silhouette is created by strips of gold and silver metal mesh carefully joined by hand stitching.
