Incense burner with flowers

Hu Guangyu Chinese

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 213

This rare bronze censer bears the name of Hu Guangyu, son of the bronze master Hu Wenming. The seasonal flowers are meticulously worked in relief over an extremely fine ground of geometric patterns. The exquisite quality of this piece vouches for its authenticity and can be used as a benchmark for attributing works to Hu Wenming.
