While luxury goods such as book-shaped shagreen-covered inkwells, silver vinaigrettes containing sponge-soaked aromatics, and locking brass snuff boxes are not common accessories today, variations of these objects were widely available in the 19th century, and bibliophiles would have been familiar with them.
