Carved wood puzzle box in book form

On View Gallery Watson Library

Book-form puzzle or trick boxes with ingenious opening mechanisms and hidden compartments have been made for generations internationally. The trick to opening this box is the removable second spine panel. Once this piece is removed, a drawer opens. The color and design of this book mimic a traditional panel-style binding. The part representing the text block is made of lighter pine, with the lines of the growth rings suggesting pages.
