Egg-Shaped Ornament

Armenian

Not on view

This unusually elaborate hanging ornament includes between the seraphim an image of the Virgin and Child that is based on an engraving by the Dutch painter Cornelius Bloemaert II (1603–ca. 1684). The inscription suggests the work was a votive gift: "A memorial of Abraham of Kütahya is this sphere."

Egg-Shaped Ornament, Frit body with green, yellow, blue, magneisum purple and brownish black underglaze painting; with metal fittings at each end, Armenian
