On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 743

In these two remarkable hair ornaments, Louis C. Tiffany displays his rigorous study of nature. Two dragonflies with shimmering black opal bodies and gossamer-like filigree wings perch on fragile dandelion seed balls, their seeds about to scatter. The Queen Anne’s lace ornament, one of three versions Tiffany exhibited at the 1904 Saint Louis Exposition, depicts the plant in full bloom. Delicate silver wires support tiny opals, garnets, and enamel florets.
