The two different schemes for a mosaic birdbath illustrate Tiffany's fascination with unusual floral devices and effects in color. The models were drafted for Mrs. Richardson Pratt, wife of the grandson of Charles Pratt, the founder of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Delicate gradations of blue, green, and purple "luster" glass lining the bowl's interior evoke the water within and the shimmering flow from the central fountain.
