Grandi incensieri di ceramica, preposti a contenere incenso e copale, sono tra le più complesse sculture in terracotta realizzate dagli antichi Maya del Messico meridionale e del vicino Guatemala. Questo incensiere, composto da due parti, pare rappresenti l’immagine di un re Maya assiso in posa regale. Indossa un imponente copricapo, grandi ornamenti alle orecchie e regge un vassoio per le offerte. Il fumo, che si credeva portasse le offerte agli spiriti e alle divinità nel regno soprannaturale, era un elemento fondamentale in tutte le cerimonie sacre dei Maya.
