1866年頃までには、それまで極端に横に広がっていたドレスのボリュームが次第に背面中央に移動し、さまざまな形状で飾り立てられるようになりました。時には同様の立体感を出すため、別途オーバースカートを重ねることもありました。その後数年のうちに、スカートを支える馬の毛またはコットン・クリノリンの張り骨による横への広がりはかなり狭められ、正面のシルエットはより直線に近づきました。この作品は1860年代のシルエットを残していますが、次の20年間に流行したバッスル(スカートを膨らませる腰当て)の先駆けの要素が後部に現われています。
