ジャン=アンリ・リーズネルは、1783年にマリー・アントワネットのためにこの見事な書き物机と揃いのコモード(整理ダンス)を製作しました(両作品ともに当館蔵)。母親でオーストリアの女帝であるマリア・テレジアが遺した日本の漆箱を収納するため、ヴェルサイユの王妃の私室のために注文されたものでした。化粧板には日本の17世紀の漆器の選りすぐりの小片が再利用されています。艶のある黒漆に金を施し、光沢のある黒檀の地に、写実的な花が組み合わされた花綱と花冠をモチーフとする見事な金銅の飾り金具が映えています。最上部のフリーズの中心部には王妃のイニシャルが組み込まれています。
