В 1783 году Жан-Анри Ризенер создал для Марии-Антуанетты этот великолепный секретер вместе с соответствующим ему комодом, пополнившим коллекцию Музея. Он был заказан для Версальских покоев королевы, в которых также находились японские лаковые шкатулки, которые королева унаследовала от своей матери, императрицы Марии Терезии Австрийской. Избранные фрагменты японского лака XVII в. были использованы для покрытия этих предметов из интерьера королевы. Блестящий черный и золотой лак и глянцевитое черное дерево прекрасно контрастируют с искусно выполненными ножками из позолоченной бронзы, украшенными переплетенными гирляндами цветов.
