射手図スカラベ型彫玉

紀元前6世紀末頃、ギリシャの芸術家たちは、あらゆる素材で人間の躍動感あふれる姿を表現していました。彫刻では、青銅鋳造技術の発達により、従来の石像よりも躍動感のあるより大きなブロンズ製の人物像が登場しました。また壺の絵付けでは、赤絵式陶器の技法の開発により、表面を自由に装飾することが可能になりました。この作品では、厚さ2 cmにも満たない硬い石の表面に、彫工によりしなやかなしぐさで矢を点検している青年の波打つ筋肉や、美しく整えられた髪などが鮮明に表現されています。
