このクーロス(青年)は、アッティカで彫られた大理石の人物像の中でも最古のひとつです。左足を前に踏み出し、腕を両脇にそえた硬直したポーズは、エジプト美術に由来しています。この単純明快な立ち姿は、紀元前6 世紀のギリシャで広く取り入れられました。この初期の彫像では、体つきは幾何学的でほとんど抽象的に表現され、身体構造の細部は美しく似せて描かれています。この像は、アテネの若い貴族の墓標として製作されました。
